5 Foldable Phones Leading Breakthrough Mobile Technology: The 2022 CRN Mobile 100 – CRN

Samsung has cornered the foldable phone market, but some interesting players are beginning to emerge in this niche field. CRN highlights some of the brands bringing foldable technology to the smartphone space.
We all remember our flip phones back in the early 2000s – they were convenient and added a level of portability and durability other phones were lacking. So, the concept of a folding phone isn’t new, but when companies began perfecting screens that could fold to turn our smartphones into flip phones, it wound up being more than a fun trip down memory lane. We suddenly remembered how cool and useful a foldable device could be.
What started as a mobile phone novelty has gained considerable momentum as foldable mobile phone sales reached 7.1 million units in 2021 (a significant 264.3 percent increase from 2020), and market researcher IDC says the trend will continue, predicting mobile foldables hitting a market value of $29 billion in 2025.
IDC notes that with 7.1 million units shipped in 2021, foldables did not represent a major portion of overall smartphone sales, but the devices managed to take a third of the premium ($1,000-plus) Android market.
Nabila Popal, research director with IDC’s Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker, said in a statement: “While the importance of foldable is no longer in question to any brand that wants a share of the premium Android space… Vendors should continue to keep a close eye on the overall foldable market as it continues to grow and attract new players to the market.”
As part of CRN’s 2022 Mobile 100, here are five cool foldable phones available in 2022:
* Galaxy Z Fold3 5G
* Galaxy Z Flip 3
* Oppo Find N
* Motorola Razr 5G
* Huawei Mate Xs
